Turkmenistan, where women were banned from cosmetic procedures and taking a seat next to the driver, held a Dialogue of Women of the Central Asian States

On May 13, Ashgabat hosted the Dialogue of Women of the States of Central Asia and Russia, the state news agency TDH reports . The event was also attended by the heads of some UN units in Turkmenistan.

 

The publication writes that “caring for women, raising their status in society, ensuring true gender equality in accordance with the Constitution and international law are among the priorities of the political course of Turkmenistan .” However, about a month before the event, Turkmenistan secretly tightened control over the external and moral character of women. They were forbidden to inject Botox, dye their eyebrows and build up nails, as well as sit next to the driver in taxis and private cars.

At the event, the Chairman of the Mejlis , Gulshat Mammedova , announced that the current Dialogue, which is taking place in an expanded format, was initiated by the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty, Milli Gengesh, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov .

 

The first Forum-Dialogue of Women of Central Asia ( established  in December 2020) was held on June 6 at the NTZ “Avaza” and took place without the participation of Russia. The event  was attended  by representatives of five countries of the region, heads of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy and the UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS.

 

“At a time when world politics and the global economy are becoming more brutal, uncompromising, there is a growing demand for female leadership, a female look in various areas,” the  press service quotes the speaker of the upper house of the Russian parliament, Valentina Matviyenko .

 

Valentina Matvienko emphasized that on the world stage Russia has always advocated the development of women’s leadership and support for the women’s movement.

The other participants of the event also spoke about the role of women in modern society, its strengthening in social and political life, respect for women’s rights, ensuring gender equality and developing regional interaction.

 

“According to the Forum delegates, the foundation that is jointly laid will help strengthen relations between the women of Central Asia and Russia,” TDH writes.

 

As a result of the meeting, a Declaration was adopted, including measures that need to be taken at the national and regional levels to ensure gender balance and increase the participation of women in the political and socio-economic life of states, in the development of entrepreneurship , and the Action Plan of the Dialogue of Women in Central Asia for 2022 was signed year.

After the event, its participants toured the exhibition, national stands and fashion show, performance of the group of national equestrian games “Galkynysh”.
