Spain and Ukraine announced on Saturday in a joint declaration that the latter's European Union candidacy will be a priority during the former's presidency in the EU Council, APA reports citing Teletrader.

During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez once again confirmed Spain's unwavering support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"Spain reaffirms its willingness to work with Ukraine as it progresses towards EU accession, taking into account a merit-based approach, and looks forward to a progress report from the European Commission, which will serve as a basis for deciding on next steps," it was written in the declaration.
