UN in Turkmenistan discusses gender equality issues while women are prohibited from driving

On March 4, the Mejlis of Turkmenistan held a discussion and signing of a work plan between the United Nations and Turkmenistan for 2016-2020. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Parliament, UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

According to the state news agency TDH , the developed Work Plan for the project Contributing to strengthening the system and mechanisms for promoting gender equality, is based on the successes of interaction achieved earlier and determines the main activities and activities for 2019

In addition to this plan, the parties also signed:

The work plan for 2019 of the project Rendering assistance in the implementation of the National Action Plan of Turkmenistan in the field of human rights for 2016-2020,

Joint work plan for 2019 of the project Support for climate-resilient economic activity of agricultural communities in arid regions of Turkmenistan,

Joint work plan for 2019 of the project Assistance in strengthening the system and mechanisms for promoting gender equality,

Cooperation Program for 2016-2020 and Biennial Work Plan for 2019-2020. Partnerships for the rights of children.

It should be noted that the meeting and discussions on gender equality are taking place against the background of the ban onwomen in Turkmenistan to drive cars.
