UNDP will help Turkmenistan assess the potential of the Office of the Ombudsman

An introductory meeting was held to launch a five -stage event called “Capacity Assessment of the Office of the Ombudsman of Turkmenistan,” the UNDP office in Turkmenistan said on April 28.

Based on the results of the assessment, a Strategic Plan for the Office of the Ombudsman will be developed.

The evaluation will be carried out by a dedicated team, which will include experts from the UNDP Regional Office, the UNHCHR Regional Office, the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia and the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions (APF).

It is planned that the special team will visit Turkmenistan in October to hold meetings with representatives of government agencies, organizations and public associations in Ashgabat and velayats.

These events will help the Ombudsman's Office to promote and protect human rights in Turkmenistan, as well as positively influence the process of considering the office's application for accreditation in the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions in 2023.
