US, China to form task forces for Asia-Pacific, maritime issues

Washington and Beijing could establish at least two working groups to cover issues of mutual concern aimed at addressing matters in the Asia-Pacific region and maritime domains in an effort to stabilize bilateral relations, sources told The Financial Times on Friday, APA reports.

Namely, a third group might focus on "broader areas." According to people familiar with the matter, the arrangement was discussed during the visit of Yang Tao, the Director General of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs' North American and Oceanian Affairs Department, to Washington this week.

United States Secretary of State Anthony Blinken previously revealed that a formal invitation has been extended to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, for a diplomatic visit, underlining that Washington is willing to continue dialogue with Beijing.
