In July this year, during a meeting between Presidents of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkmenistan Serder Berdimuhamedov in Tashkent, the parties announced plans to double the volume of trade in the coming years.
However, according to Trend, with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan, in the first nine months of this year, trade between the countries decreased by 4.9% compared to the same period last year and amounted to $569 million.
Uzbek imports from Turkmenistan amounted to $414.9 million, and exports – $154.1 million.
At the same time, it is emphasized that the total foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan for this period exceeded $36.02 billion and increased by 27.2%. That is, the share of trade with Turkmenistan has decreased even more.
A week ago, a deputy of the Uzbek parliament , Zukhra Shadiyeva , said that in 2021, the volume of trade between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan amounted to $902 million, and the share of Turkmenistan in Uzbekistan’s foreign trade was only 2.1% in the total trade turnover.
