Western Azerbaijan Community Calls for End to Armenia’s Racism and Mono-Ethnic Politics

Baku: The Western Azerbaijan Community has issued a stern condemnation of a statement by Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, dated January 15, 2025, which alleged crimes against Armenians in the Azerbaijan SSR. The community described the statement as groundless and slanderous, reminiscent of Armenia's rhetoric prior to the Second Garabagh War. According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Western Azerbaijan Community highlighted that Armenia, not Azerbaijan, has engaged in ethnic cleansing. The statement referenced a 1993 speech by Levon Ter-Petrosyan, then president of Armenia, during a period marked by the occupation of Azerbaijani lands and ethnic cleansing policies against Azerbaijanis. In his speech, Ter-Petrosyan admitted that the migration of Armenians from the Azerbaijan SSR was orchestrated by Armenia itself, emphasizing that this movement was a strategic decision to strengthen Armenia's national interests. The community argued that Armenia's organization of Armenian migration from Azerbaijani terr itories aimed to dismantle the possibility of peaceful coexistence and establish a mono-ethnic state. The statement urged the Armenian government to cease making slanderous and hateful remarks and instead focus on ending its racist and mono-ethnic policies. The community called for the creation of conditions that would allow for the return of Western Azerbaijanis and the restoration of a multi-ethnic environment in the region.
