WHO and Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry agree to sample suspect COVID-19 patients as soon as possible

On an online meeting bringing together Turkmenistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, Minister of Healthcare and Medical Industry Nurmukhammed Amannepesov and Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, was held.

WHO official reported on his Facebook page that the sides agreed that no country is COVID immune. The next steps for WHO mission is to sample suspect COVID patients as soon as possible. The testing of samples obtained in Turkmenistan will be performed  at WHO reference laboratory abroad.

Turkmen media outlets and Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry also made a coverage of the meeting. However, Turkmenistan avoided mentioning independent COVID-19 testing and used vague wordings.

“Within the framework of a constructive dialogue the sides discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, for instance, effective cooperation of Turkmenistan and WHO in combating the spread of novel coronavirus”, – the press release of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs says.

Let us recall that on 7 August, 2020 Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov agreed for a WHO team to sample independently COVID19 tests in-country during negotiations with Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO.
