WHO delegation arrives in Turkmenistan

On November 15, the head of the department Rashid Meredov met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with a delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO), headed by the Regional Director for Emergencies in the European Region, Dorit Nitzan, who arrived in Ashgabat .

The parties discussed issues related to the implementation of the agreements reached during the meeting of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the Regional Director of the WHO European Office, Dr. Hans Kluge, on October 8, the country's Foreign Ministry reported .

The diplomats also considered the draft roadmap for Turkmenistan-WHO cooperation, as well as the organization of regular high-level meetings to speed up the implementation of joint agreements .

Meredov presented a number of initiatives, in particular, the creation of the Central Asian Regional Center for Epidemiology, Virology and Bacteriology and the construction of a Research and Production Center for Epidemiology, Virology and Bacteriology in Turkmenistan .

During his online speech at the 76th session of the General Assembly on September 21, the head of Turkmenistan proposed the creation of international and regional institutions: the WHO Special Program for the Study of the Coronavirus Genome, the WHO Multilateral Mechanism for the Control of Pneumonia, the WHO Methodological Center for the Treatment and Prevention of Acute Infections, Central Asian regional center for epidemiology, virology and bacteriology.

According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the parties also discussed the implementation of the concept of "One Health Care" proposed by Hans Kluge in the planning and promotion of the Regional Center for Epidemiology project.

Help WHO . The One Health approach is a paradigm that takes into account the relationship between human, animal and ecosystem health. It provides for cross-sectoral action to address risks arising from contact between humans, animals and the ecosystem. Close collaboration between the human and animal health sectors - domestic and wild - and the environment sector ensures effective prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases.

It is also reported that Turkmenistan supports the work of the Pan-European Commission on Health and Sustainable Development (Monti Commission), established at the initiative of Hans Kluge in September 2020.
