WHO expert team arrive in Turkmenistan

Hans Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, has posted on his Facebook page that the WHO mission is headed to Turkmenistan.

Kluge thanked the Robert Koch Institute whose experts joined the mission. According to the WHO official, the Institute is a GOARN partner (Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network).

The WHO official also emphasized “the special effort” Turkmenistan had undertaken to make the trip possible.

It should be pointed out that two months have passed since Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov said there was not a single case of coronavirus in Turkmenistan and expressed readiness to organize the visit of the WHO experts to Turkmenistan. It is unknown what has caused such long delay. The independent media outlets previously reported that Turkmenistan had not sent the official invitation to the WHO.
