Winners of Turkmenistan Fencing Championship are defined

The tournament that was held for four days in Ashgabat Sport Complex gathered around 70 best athletes from Balkan, Lebap, Mary Velayats and Ashgabat. The sportsmen compete in sabre, foil and epee.

Men Sabre competitions were the most spectacular. Repeated winner of national tournaments in this category Muhammed Gochmyradov and prize winner of numerous international competitions Serdar Bayramov (both from Ashgabat team) met in the final match.

In the beginning, current country champion, who made few successful lunges, had an advantage. Nevertheless, later, Serdar managed to take over initiative and confidently finished the duel with 15:9 score. It is worth highlighting that it was the first time for the last several years when the leader was changed in sabre competitions.

Two gold medals were put into collection by Mengli Goyunliyeva (Ashgabat), who entered the highest step of the podium in foil and epee fencing. In the final matches, the student of National Institute of Sports and Tourism hardly won representatives of Balkan Velayat Maria Karpova and Kamelia Measchenko with scores 15:12 and 15:13 accordingly.

Another victory in women capital team was in sabre fencing. Aylar Muhammedvaleeva was beyond the competiveness and won her group mate Gozel Tayyrova in the final.

Ashgabat athletes, masters of sports Ahmed Agayev and Vyacheslav Voronin won the gold in men epee and foil fencing accordingly. All capital sportsmen are the fosters of the school of high sports achievement where they are trained by Honoured Coach of Turkmenistan, Head Coach of National Team Vitaliy Kagramanov and Alyona Bogdanova.

It is worth mentioning ever growing skills of Balkan fencing school. Balkan Velayat team hold two victories in current national tournament in men and women team foil competitions.

Participation in the competition was also a good experience and practice for Lebap and Mary fencers. Fencing sections were opened around 3 years ago in administration centres of the velayats and therefore, there is a lot of work ahead. However, Head Referee of the championship Tatyana Ermolayeva thinks that fencers from the eastern region and Murgab valley achieved considerable growth of the skills.

Composition of Turkmenistan National team will be defined by the results of the competition. The team has to train hard for number of large international competitions. There will be Asian Championship in Hong Kong in the middle of June and the World Summer Student Games, which programme includes fencing competitions, in Taipei in August.
