The World Taekwondo Federation(WTF) will hold the 2019 world championships in Manchester, England.
The federation made the decision in a meeting of its council held in Burnaby, Canada, on Monday.
The WTF chose Manchester over the U.S. city of Houston, noting that the British city has the best capabilities and infrastructure to hold the 2019 championships. Manchester is also the host of another international taekwondo event, the 2018 World Grand-Prix Series. The Manchester championships will run for five days from May 15th to the 19th, 2019.
The WTF World Championships are held every two years. The 2017 event will be held in Muju, North Jeolla Province.
Meanwhile, the WTF announced new guidelines on selecting host cities in accordance with the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Agenda 2020.
As a result, London will host the third round of the 2017 World Grand-Prix Series, while Abidjan of Cote d'Ivoire was selected as the host for the 2017 WTF World Taekwondo Grand-Prix Final and 2017 WTF World Taekwondo Team Championships.
