Azerbaijan removes drugs worth AZN 101 million from illegal circulation

During January-June 2024, the results of the combat against drug addiction and the illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors were comparatively analyzed and summarized by the permanent working group of the State Commission of Azerbaijan, it was reported in the information on the result of January-June 2024 on the fight against drug addiction and illegal drug trafficking, APA reports. It was noted that a total of 5,675 criminal facts were discovered as a result of the complex investigative measures implemented by law enforcement bodies in the field of combating drug addiction and illegal drug trafficking. 1734 of them were related to illegal sale of narcotic drugs, 3822 were related to illegal acquisition and storage of narcotic drugs, 116 were related to illegal planting and cultivation of narcotic plants, and 3 were related to other crimes. During the reporting period, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the participati on of representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the State Border Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and other relevant institutions, 2,083,830 wild narcotic plants from 648 hectares were identified and destroyed accordingly. The total value of 3 tons 722 kg 642,725 g of narcotics and psychotropic substances removed from illegal circulation is estimated to be worth AZN 101 million 013,000 thousand.
