Chairman of the Council of Elders of the Organization of Turkic States (OTG, formerly the Turkic Council) Binali Yildirim arrived in Turkmenistan .
On March 10, Yildirim met with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Acting President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov .
Meredov and Yildirim discussed the possibilities of expanding cooperation within the framework of the ATC. As noted on the website of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, Turkmenistan, as an observer country, takes an active part in the activities of this international structure. The head of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry announced the readiness of the Turkmen side to actively participate in the work of the Council of Elders.
Berdimuhamedov discussed with Yildirim bilateral Turkmen-Turkish cooperation, "of a strategic nature." No other details of the meeting were given.
On February 26, Berdimuhamedov, in a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan , expressed interest in participating as a member in the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking Countries (TURKPA) and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkic Countries.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov phoned Turkish Trade Minister Mehmet Mus . The parties discussed cooperation in the trade and economic sphere and expansion of partnership in the field of trade and the textile industry.
It should be noted that observers from the UTC will take part in the presidential elections, among others .
