Turkmenistan to create UN-sponsored climate technology center

BAKU: Before the commencement of COP29 in Baku this November, Turkmenistan is set to publish the first results of funding the initial phase of establishing a regional climate technology center in the country's capital, UN Resident Coordinator in Turkmenistan Dmitry Shlapachenko said, Trend reports. He made the remark during a panel discussion titled "Economic development of Turkmenistan and its investment potential" at the Turkmenistan Investment Forum (TIF 2024) in Ashgabat today. "It is time for ambition, and this forum is a great example of what we can achieve together. The key challenge for the Central Asian region is climate change. No country can tackle this problem alone. That's why we highly appreciate the forward-thinking efforts of the Turkmen government, which, with UN support, is creating a regional climate technology center in Ashgabat for Central Asia. This center is right up our alley for today's forum, as its focus on climate mitigation technologies is hand in glove with the transition to ' green' energy. It will be a springboard for cultivating eco-friendly energy banking initiatives, enhancing expertise in implementing top-notch strategies for climate change mitigation, and spreading this know-how throughout the region. Turkmenistan has announced that it will finance the center during its initial phase, and before COP29 in Baku, we'll learn more about the progress of its creation. I look forward to working with Turkmenistan on these important initiatives as we strive to shape a more inclusive, equitable, peaceful, and sustainable future for the country and the region," Shlapachenko added. The TIF 2024 in Ashgabat from September 10-11 attracts investment to the country's economy. The Ministry of Finance and Economy, Foreign Ministry, and Turkmenistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry organize it. The meeting features top worldwide firms and organizations discussing hydrocarbon investment, the TAPI pipeline, gas chemistry, energy, construction, and transport. The program includes parallel them atic sessions featuring experts from UN specialized agencies, SandP Global Commodity Insights, and the World Trade Organization. Meanwhile, an exhibition showcasing the country's economic achievements is underway. Source: Trend News Agency
