Head of Kyrgyz Cabinet meets with DG of Rosatom

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov, as part of his working trip to the city of Sochi (Russian Federation), met with Director General of Rosatom - the State Atomic Energy Corporation Alexei Likhachev. During the meeting, the sides discussed the full range of issues of bilateral cooperation, including the reclamation of uranium tailings, low-power nuclear power plants and nuclear medicine. The sides also expressed satisfaction with the successful implementation of the Interstate Target Program "Reclamation of the Territories of States Affected by Uranium Mining Industries". In this context, Akylbek Zhaparov outlined the need to continue work aimed at a comprehensive solution of problems associated with tailings both at the national and regional levels. The director of Rosatom briefed the head of the Cabinet of Ministers on the development of a project for the construction of a low-power nuclear power plant in the country. It was agreed to continue consultations on this area of cooperation. As a result of negotiations between the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic and the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the application of non-energy nuclear technologies in healthcare was signed. The document is aimed at the joint development of high-tech medical projects in the Kyrgyz Republic. In particular, we are talking about the creation of a radiopharmaceutical pharmacy and a molecular imaging center on the basis of the National Center for Oncology and Hematology, where advanced methods for diagnosing and treating oncological and other diseases will be applied.
