Chairman of the Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova met with the head of the Mejlis (lower house of parliament) of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova during her visit to Ashgabat.
During the meeting, the state and prospects of inter-parliamentary cooperation, as well as the possibility of intensifying the exchange of experience in the field of lawmaking, were discussed. Noting that this year Turkmenistan chairs the Dialogue of Women of Central Asian Countries, Gulshat Mammedova spoke about the work carried out by the Turkmen side to exchange experience in ensuring gender equality in various areas of public life. The subject of discussion was also the role of the inter-parliamentary dialogue in strengthening the multifaceted strategic partnership between the two states.
After the meeting, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan addressed the deputies of the Mejlis. In her speech, the speaker of the friendly country's parliament emphasized the historical commonality of the peoples of the two countries, who have lived in the neighborhood for centuries and have a common history, culture, language, and religion.
Then the meeting of the chairman of the upper house of the Turkmen parliament - Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the head of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova took place.
During the talks, it was noted that there is mutual understanding between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan on the main issues of the regional and global agenda, such as maintaining and maintaining global peace and stability, countering the threats of international terrorism, ensuring sustainable energy, transport, water security and environmental protection. The parties also discussed the development of bilateral cooperation in the economic, transport, energy and inter-parliamentary spheres.
Following the meeting, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan and the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Then the decree of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on awarding the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova with the Order of Turkmenistan "For contribution to the development of cooperation" was read out. On behalf of the head of state, to the applause of those present, the chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan presented a high award to the head of the Azerbaijani parliament, congratulating her on this significant event and wishing her further success in her work.
