The current and newly elected presidents of Turkmenistan spoke by phone with the UN Secretary General

A telephone conversation took place between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and UN Secretary General António Guterres.

During the conversation, the head of state informed the interlocutor that, according to the results of the presidential elections held on March 12, announced by the Central Election Commission of the country, Serdar Berdimuhamedov was elected the new president of Turkmenistan. At the same time, the incumbent president noted that he intends to continue his work as chairman of the upper house of the parliament of the Halk Maslakhaty (People's Council) Milli Gengesh (National Council) of Turkmenistan.

The head of state thanked António Guterres for the attention paid to the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that Ashgabat's strategic partnership with the UN and its structural institutions would continue to be strengthened for the sake of stability, peace and sustainable development in the region and the world.

The UN Secretary General, in turn, congratulated the head of state on the successful early presidential elections.

Having wished the head of the UN good health and success in solving the global problems of our time, the Turkmen leader handed over the phone to the newly elected President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov.

Congratulating the newly elected head of the Turkmen state on his convincing victory in the elections, the head of the UN wished him great success in his important and responsible position.

Thanking António Guterres for the congratulations, Serdar Berdimuhamedov stressed that he intends to continue the course towards further expansion and strengthening of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN.
