December 10 in Turkmenistan with two-day visit arrived European Union Special Representative for Central Asia, Terhi Hakala ( Teri Hakala ) to participate in a conference on neutrality, which takes place on December 11 in Ashgabat.
Hakala met with Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and local representatives of civil society.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, at the meeting, Meredov confirmed “a serious focus on expanding cooperation with the EU” and stated the need to continue the development of political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian partnership.
The fight against cybercrime and measures to strengthen information and biological security were noted as promising areas of interaction.
Next Terhi Hakala and EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan Diego Ruiz Alonso (Diego Ruiz Alonso) held a meeting with representatives of the three Turkmen NGOs – “Yenme” , “Keyik Okara” and Disabled Support Center.
The EU Special Representative spoke about the importance of civil society for supporting and promoting human rights.
Turkmen activists took part in an online meeting with representatives of non-governmental organizations from other Central Asian countries organized by the EU and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in honor of International Human Rights Day, which is celebrated on 10 December.
