Turkmenistan celebrates Eid al-Adha

Turkmenistan is hosting a three-day celebration of the main Muslim holiday - Eid al-Adha.

By tradition, festive services are held in all mosques of Turkmenistan, believers read Bairam-namaz (holiday prayer). On the days of Eid al-Adha celebrations, it is customary to visit, receive guests, make gifts to loved ones and help those in need. The main treat these days is dishes from the meat of an animal that the owner of the house sacrificed. In Turkmenistan, most often it is a ram. It is generally accepted that the more guests come to taste dishes prepared from the meat of the sacrificial animal, the more grace the donor's house will gather.

These days, festive events and concerts are held in parks, cultural and recreation centers of Ashgabat and regions of the country. It is especially crowded near the high swings installed on this occasion, which are an integral national attribute of the holiday. According to popular belief, riding on such a swing during the holidays, a person receives forgiveness for voluntarily or involuntarily committed sins. And despite the fact that the swing is very high, and riding on them requires skill and courage, there are a lot of people who want to get rid of sins so cheerfully - long queues line up. Performances of famous pop singers and folklore groups, organized near the swings, give special fun to the holiday.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov congratulated the people of Turkmenistan on Eid al-Adha. The head of state noted in his congratulations that this wonderful holiday occupies a special place in the life of the Turkmen people. “This celebration, which has become the personification of the spiritual purity of a person in a new historical era, inspires our society to create great work, further strengthening our unity and solidarity,” the Turkmen leader emphasized.
