On February 19, in the Akhal and Mary velayats of Turkmenistan, meetings of initiative groups of citizens were held, which nominated candidates for the presidency, the state news agency TDH reports .
In the Akhal velayat – the head of the sanitary and epidemiological service of the Babadaykhan etrap of the Akhal velayat Maksatmyrat Ovezgeldiyev .
From the achievements of the candidate, it is noted that in 2007 he graduated from the Ashgabat Medical University, after which he worked in the etrap sanitary and epidemiological service, which he headed in 2018.
In Mary velayat – director of the research and production center “Renewable Energy Sources” of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan Kakageldi Saryeva .
Saryev graduated from the Energy Institute in 1999. After serving in the army in 2001, he worked as an engineer at a machine-building plant in the Mary velayat, and since 2002, “in various positions at the State Energy Institute.”
Earlier, the Democratic Party nominated Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov , and the Agrarian Party nominated Agadzhan Bekmyradov , Deputy Prime Minister of the Mary Velayat . In the Balkan velayat, the initiative groups of citizens nominated the head physician of the sanatorium “Avaza” Berdymammet Gurbanov , and in Lebap – the director of the financial and economic secondary vocational school Perhat Begenjov .
In total, the names of six candidates have been officially announced so far.
On February 17, it became known that the Central Election Commission of Turkmenistan registered six initiative groups of citizens who must collect signatures and nominate their candidates. Thus, it is expected that at least eight contenders will participate in the presidential elections in the country. If the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs nominates their candidate, their number will reach nine.
